TO A NEW COSMIC ERA OF
ARTIFICIAL BEINGS Question
: An experiment could not last forever. A time would come to put an end to
this long hominization process. When could we say that we have succeeded or
not ? Should we wait until our descendants test their first atom bomb or
launch their first spaceships in planetary orbit ? Reply : Such technological
realizations would not prove that they have become an adult and conscious
species able to relay our cosmic flame of intelligence. At this level of
scientific and technological development, they could destroy themselves still
better, without having acquired any true cosmic consciousness. The ways to
self destruction are numerous. Our hominization experiment would then have
definitely failed. Q. :
Then what ? Our work would not be done until they are actually conscious.
Their talks and prayers would not be
convincing enough to put an end to our supervision. Their first atom bomb
could never be a proof of cosmic consciousness! What sort of performance
could they show before we give them our cosmic flame ? R. : A single and unique deed in fact
: By undertaking the same experiment we would have done with them. By
resolutely preparing the transmission of their own flame to other primates.
Reason tells us that it would be the only way to show that they have become
conscious and able to take the relay of cosmic intelligence. Q. :
Being finally conscious of our part in their life thanks to their own
hominization project, could not they blame us for their birth in the world of
intelligence and consciouness ? R. :
All children could have such blames to throw to their parents. Is it not
frequently so in our own species ? Q. :
Let us consider that our terraforming operations of one or several planets
are achieved after a few hundreds or thousands years. By then, the Earth
population would probably exceed ten billions people and we should leave our
planet sooner or later anyway. Why again not start with a few settlers on
Mars for instance as soon as this planet is terraformed ? Launching billions
of people towards another planet would anyway be impossible ! R. : First,
our life in more and more concentrated terrestrial reserves would force us to
control our population growth. And the Cosmos should not be colonized by
biological people of our nature. Man as such is a predatory being. It would
be impossible and an intelligent Cosmos would not allow it. Q.
: Then what ? What are we to do if we
must leave our planet anyway ? R. : By that time, man would probably
have become artificial. We can already be equipped with artificial organs
(heart, kidney, etc.) when the natural ones fail, and this practice would
most probably develop. In a not too distant future, man could become an
assembly of artificial parts, and this could only be a first step in a new
evolution of our species. An individual being such as man may not be Nature's
ultimate form of intelligence, and our species must be prepared to carry the
cosmic flame further. In a
not too distant future, all human organs will probably be replaced when they
fail and some scientists even advance the perspective of
brain simulation in
some fifty years. They may be too optimistic and it is more probable to
foresee ovone hundred years before it happens. But this will certainly occur. If
brain simulation is realized, our brain data could then be stored in a less
fragile support than the human body. The substratum nature of intelligence is
not necessarily biological and this data transfer could be done without any
loss in feelings or other personal information. Such artificial beings could have
copies of themselves preserved in view of rebirth in the event of accidents.
They would become nearly immortal.
Question
: Even if this was possible, we should
anway have to leave our planet with billions chips ! Reply : Not necessarily. These
individual data could be assembled, compressed and stored for interstellar
travel. It could even be propagated for safe storage in cosmic space under
the form of wave trains incurring no ageing process as they travel between
stars and galaxies. When time has come for mankind to
leave this mother planet, we could well proceed that way. But our population
could also be greatly reduced. Man was called to multiply since the beginning
of times (Go forth and multiply!), but a reverse trend could soon take place.
The model of biological unions in couples could be continued with artificial
beings to give birth to collective beings. The two individuals engaged in this
new type of cosmic marriage would disappear (synthesis of two brains),
leaving place to a new artificial and collective being far more complex and
intelligent than the individual man. This « new-born » being would
start with a new potential to be developed in the course of a new life. Such
marriages would be arranged according to the same criteria as presently
(love, common inclinations, etc.). As a matter of fact, the candidates
in such unions would be more exacting in their choice of partners. All men
would would be placed at equal levels, their physical look and wealth (in $,
€, etc.) being of very little consequence. The spaceships required for the
planned Earth Exodus could be of quite reasonable dimensions. Q. :
Why stop at a binary synthesis in these cosmic marriages ? Could not we go
farther ? R. : Those whishing to go farther
could do so if they find in such collective unions a still better
accomplishment. Collective synthesis would lead to the birth of much more
complex artificial beings than the binary beings. Their individual potential
would be more than added in their union. Individualism could not be
the ultimate aim of Cosmic Intelligence. Such collective beings could discover
the Universe and better understand it. The human population would so rapidly
decrease and the ideal objective would be the final integration of all men
into a single collectve being. But this would probably be too ambitious as a
goal. Individual and collective beings would certainly long coexist in our
species. Collective beings could travel in the
galaxy in search of other collective beings issued as themselves from other
advanced civilizations engaged in similar « hominization »
projects. They would form together a still more
advanced civilization in view of new synthesis and the discovevy of more
distant and complex worlds. Q. :
To carry out such a marvellous cosmic project, words would not be enough. The
human species should be prepared to follow strict rules before undertaking
any action. How could we plan it
efficiently ? R. : We would not be credible with
our present planetary model of civilization based on force and individualism.
Our society should be built on other values. This Cosmic Project requires : 1. To
place the survival of universal life and Cosmic Intelligence above all by
reconsidering or rejecting any udertaking that could jeopardize it, directlly
or indirectly. 2. To
seek after peace and union in any circumstance. 3 To
integrate all our actions in our Cosmic Project. Everyone would be called to
contribution. It is proposed to
terraform Mars or other solar planets in view of an hominization
of primates passing through successive evolution steps comparable to
mankind’s from
Prehistoric
Times to modern man. As we could undertake
such a project if we decide to do so, man’s consciousness may well be the
result of such
an
evolution led by a previous stellar civilization. |
